Levels and XP
How Camperwolf’s optional level and XP system works.
When you help Camperwolf with information, ratings, photos, or other contributions, you can earn experience points (XP).
As you collect XP, your level gradually increases. It shows how much you have contributed to the community.
Importantly, a higher level gives you no special rights or advantages. It does not affect ratings or the order in which places are shown.
How do I earn XP?
You earn XP for helpful contributions to Camperwolf.
If a contribution needs moderator approval, the XP is awarded once the contribution has been approved.
You currently earn, for example:
- +1 XP for an additional piece of information or feature about a place
- +2 XP for larger text contributions, such as a description or directions
- +1 XP for each answered rating question
- +1 XP for a photo - up to 5 photo XP per place
- +2 XP for a review
- +4 XP in total for a detailed review of at least 300 characters
- +1 XP when someone marks your photo as helpful - up to 10 XP per photo
The details required to create a new place - such as its name, type, and location - do not earn additional XP.
If you voluntarily add more information about the new place, you can earn XP for those contributions.
Can I earn XP for the same information more than once?
No. You normally earn XP only once for the same piece of information about a place.
For example, if you add a feature and receive XP for it, you will not receive more XP for updating that same feature yourself later.
If another user adds or updates that information for the first time, they may also earn XP for their contribution.
What happens if I delete something and add it again?
XP you have already earned cannot be earned again this way.
For example, if you have already received the maximum 5 photo XP for a place, deleting those photos and uploading new ones will not give you another 5 photo XP.
How do levels work?
You start at Level 1 with 0 XP.
The first levels are relatively quick to reach. Each new level requires more XP than the one before it.
XP you have already earned remains yours.
Where can I see my XP?
You can view your XP history on your profile.
It shows when you received XP and what you received it for. Corrections are shown there as well.
For example:
`01/01/2026, 20:32 - Wrote a detailed review: +4 XP`
`02/01/2026, 11:32 - Added a feature to a place: +1 XP`
What are special XP and corrections?
Sometimes additional XP may be awarded, for example for special community activities, events, or awards.
XP may also need to be corrected. For example, if a moderator removes a contribution for which you previously received XP, those XP may be deducted again.
These changes also appear in your XP history.
I don't want this. Can I hide my level and XP?
Yes. In your profile settings, you can choose not to show your gamification publicly.
Other users will then no longer see your level, progress, badges, or XP history.
Your XP is not lost. Camperwolf continues counting it in the background and your level can still increase.
This setting only affects your own profile. You will still see the levels and badges of other users who choose to show their gamification.
